EDIT: I've finally seen the movie. It's fantastic.

EDIT 2: If you'd like the high-res image file for free to print on your own, you can grab it right here:… (Link updated 03/13/2014)

But when you print it, be sure to e-mail me a photo ( or post a link to it here in the comments! I'd love to see it.

I still haven't seen the movie, but it's not gonna stop me from making my own poster.

Done for fun, as my half of an art jam with cool-slayer and some birthday art.

Oh, and inspired heavily from the brilliantly talented Olly Moss

This is awesome, I recently set up a website called 'Poster Spy' which is a social network/portfolio solution for poster artists and I'd love it if you could share your work with the other artists.

Thanks! :)

Hey Mike! This is some delicious work - a pinsharp idea distilled right down and beautifully realised. The skid marks are even photorealistic at first glance, which lends the whole thing a yummy (I might just go ahead and eat it now, get it over with) urgency. It rewards multiple looks, too: the headlights, the hands on the wheel, even the gorgeous rendering of the title...damn.

If I had one note, it would be that the treatment of the tagline slightly rubs me up the wrong way - it needs to stay as it's so linked to the image, but it seems to me to be crowding out your illustration and throwing off the balance a little. I would, perhaps, reduce the size of the credits a smidge, and shunt everything down to create a little extra space at the top where the tagline can go. I might liberate Gosling's name from the tarmac, or get rid of him altogether...I'm quibbling, though. You've made something very, very sexy indeed. :D Great job. :+fav: and :+devwatch: for you.

=D Thanks, Nick! I really appreciate the feedback. It's very constructive and I know exactly what you're talking about.

It could definitely benefit from a little breathing room in some areas, and some elements could easily be removed altogether. But at this point, instead of trying to rework it and play with it a little more, I'll apply it to future posters. Sometimes, I get so immersed in a project that it's hard for me to look at it as objectively as possible or with a fresh set of eyes. That being said, I love hearing back from other people!

(Also, you've got a wicked gallery, too, so consider yourself :+devwatch:'d!)

You're welcome. I'm no stranger to viewers asking for revisions myself, and I always figure I made a choice (even if it's not a great one) for a reason - which is why most of the time I'm loath to change work once it's published. So I know where you're coming from, believe me. If we can learn and improve, we're doing something right. Let me repeat "this illustration kicks seven shades of ass, so be proud", thank you for the gracious watch, and I'll bugger off. :D

I have to say, this is one of the best 'alternative / minimalist' posters I've seen. I love everything about it; composition, subject, colours, everything.
The art of this kind of image is, as I've said somewhere before, concept & execution; thinking of a good idea then being able to successfully realise it. You have masterfully done both.
I see by your other work that this is more or less the only movie poster you have done like this. You should definitely do more.
You mention Olly Moss. This is definitely on a par with his best work, or anyone else's (and I've seen a lot)
Olly Moss is just the right guy in the right place. He does excellent & bad work (not so original; most derived from Saul Bass for a start) but is riding on 'Rolling Stones' syndrome - the hysteria gets to the point where it doesn't matter what they produce, people will eat it up, good or bad.
He's certainly not the best, just prominent.

Anyway, excellent job. Keep it up : )
mikehorowitz Featured By Owner Apr 15, 2012  Hobbyist General Artist
Much appreciated, ~3ftDeep!

There's a lot of minimalistic posters out there, but I find that some people focus too much on deconstructing images when they should be deconstructing overarching themes or moods (Well, at least that's my two cents ). Putting a shape or two against a solid background doesn't convey the same emotion, and suffers because of it. Minimalism can come in other forms, too.

As per the Olly Moss mention, it was there because I spent a lot of time beforehand looking over his work. I was more curious about his thought process rather than his execution; how he sees the image and how he decides on what elements to use. But there's certainly plenty of other poster artists out there who have done similar, if not superior, work. Just at the moment, I felt that his influence was most prominent.

Sorry if I'm rambling... But thank you so much for the feedback! I'm glad you dig it! :aww:

Oh, and you've got an awesome gallery, too. That Shining poster is FANTASTIC!
3ftDeep Featured By Owner Apr 17, 2012  Professional General Artist
Thanks for comments on my gallery & Shining poster. I have watched it again now. : )

Don't worry about rambling. I was doing the same with Olly Moss ; )
Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of some of Olly Moss' work. My point is that if your Drive poster was by him, it would be sold for 250 then have a 600 resale value. Where's the justice. We're all as good (at times : ) << do you see how I included myself in that : )

But I agree. I'm very interested in his (and others) thought process. Olly's Star Wars series were magnificent. I'd be interested to know but I bet the idea of this series grew from a realisation that Cloud City looked a bit like the centre of Boba Fett's helmet, then the other two followed from that.

Anyway, thanks for the communication.

Well one of these days, I'm sure we'll be able to scribble something on a napkin that can bring in the big bucks. It just might take a little while for us to get there...

Oh, and it's all good :aww:. I enjoy talking to other people about this stuff, so thank you!
